Breath / 2017 / Video projection, sound, mesh laundry bag, silk batting / Dimensions variable

This work is about Korean homemakers who have been a self-sacrificial caregiver for their families and their desire for regeneration. In Korea, women used to bring comforter made with silk batting when they were married. My mother’s comforter which was worn out and flattened like a mat became a momentum for me to make this work. In the left side of the screen, the silk batting is fluffed back up as a cloud, turning into a brand new one. In the right side of the screen, you can see Korean housewives in their 50s and 60s doing aerobic dance. Their movements looked similar to that of the silk batting being perked up in the machine. Their dance is merely a combination of clumsy movements, but it shows their will to regain vitality.
