The Immigrant / 2015 / Digital print / 83 x 83 cm

It is a story of those living in the metro stations of Paris. They are immigrants from Guadeloupe, Rumania, and Bulgaria, who have involuntarily become homeless. However, their homelessness does not define them. They have the will to survive and long for affection more than comfortable beds or warm food. Luca lost his arm in an accident at a factory, for which he did not receive any compensation. However, he did not give up his life and kept fighting against the company. Denitsa played a Bulgarian instrument, Gadulka, for me with pride. I could see the signs of age of the musical instrument through the faint photograph of Jesus on the instrument, and the worn-out knot tied to the bow. Mariano ceaselessly poured out her story to me as if it had been a long time since she had a relaxing conversation with an open heart. I wish to not exclude them from society and regard them as eternal underdogs.
